I received a letter from Medicare and the Social Security Administration or from Peoples Health about not qualifying for help with my drug costs next year. What does this mean?

There are two ways you can receive extra help to pay for your prescription drug costs. You can automatically qualify for extra help, or you can apply for extra help. If you received a letter that states you don’t qualify for extra help, this means you automatically qualified for extra help in the past based on your income and resource levels. However, this year your income and resource levels do not automatically qualify you for extra help. Even though you don’t automatically qualify this year, you can still apply to receive it. The letter you received tells you how to apply. If you would like assistance completing your application, a Peoples Health representative can help you, or you may call the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213. TTY users may call 1-800-325-0778. You can also call the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) of Louisiana at 1-800-259-5300.
